- Audition process has three main components
- Interview and resume:
- Dancers will have an individual interview to discuss dance background and career goals
- A dance resume needs to be submitted with application materials
- Technique class:
- Dancers will participate in both a ballet and modern technique class
- During check-in, dancers will speak with faculty to decide if they would like to join the intermediate or advanced class or a combination of both
- Pointe work is not required
- Solo performance:
- Prepare a solo piece that is two to three minutes in length
- Will be performed in the studio after technique class
- No tap shoes
- Audition day will also consist of a department tour as well as observing a class and lunch.

- Materials should be uploaded to Acceptd and these and more detailed instructions are also available on the Acceptd website.
- All audition material must be received by November 14, 2025 for invitation to the November 21 audition.
- To apply for the BFA, dancers should submit an application to the Indiana University Admissions Office concurrently with the application to the BFA program in Dance
- Dancers cannot receive audition results until they are accepted to the University.
- If invited to live audition, dancers will take a two-hour class and perform a solo.
- Audition day will also includeIU Contemporary Dance Performance and small group discussion for dancers only, tour of dance facilities and a Q&A for dancers and parents
- Attire:
- Applicants should dress neatly
- Long pants are preferred, please no tights or leggings
- Tops should cover the back and abdomen and not be too tight, or large and bulky
- Long hair should be secured, no buns please.
- For solo performance, applicants may dress in a manner that is consistent with their standard attire

- Male identifying dancers:
- White fitted T-shirt, black tights, thin white socks, white ballet shoes
- Dancers will also need to submit a photograph taken in a full body pose

- Students must apply for admissions to the University of Utah and audition for the School of Dance major or minor
- Although recommended, you do not need to be admitted to the University of Utah in order to audition
