Ballet Long Island offers an apprentice program with the intent of placing the student in a professional environment. The program is designed to prepare the student for a career in dance. Teaching techniques and curriculum will be explored in classical ballet. Preparation for performing in Ballet Long Island productions of THE NUTCRACKER, SNOW WHITE, THE FANTASTIC TOYSHOP, CINDERELLA, THE LITTLE MERMAID, THE SLEEPING BEAUTY, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and various classical variations will be stressed. Students will also be assigned classes to be an assistant teacher. Students must take a minimum of 5 classes to a maximum of 22 classes per week.

In considering placement in The Ballet Apprentice Program, Artistic Director, Debra Punzi, will be looking for the student’s potential for a professional career in dance, his or her physical capabilities and strengths, their consistency of attendance, self-discipline and maintenance of suitable body weight. Students who are too thin or overweight will not be accepted to the program Many students who have completed this program now dance in professional dance companies, teach dance, perform in Broadway Shows, choreograph or own dance studios. This program will put a student on the right track for a career in dance. Class Experience Apprentices take a full course of study which can include up to 8 hour days of class, rehearsals and performance. Performance Opportunites Ballet Long Island performs at Noel s Ruiz Theater, Our own stage as well as colleges, schools, libraries and other locations. The apprectices perform 80 - 120 performances per year. Performance Compensation Select apprentices will recieve a $25 per performance stipend Tuition - $3000. September – June Plus $300 production fee including 2 adult tickets to 8 performances at Ballet Long Island ( Does not include Tickets to special events, The Nutcracker, Winter Arts Festival, Princess Tea Party or any performances at other locations) Scholarships and financial aid are available as well as a work study program
