Audition Description

Breath is a new contemporary dance duet exploring human connection, conflict, and the fragility of interdependence. Two performers share a single lifeline—a tube linking their gas masks—forming a physical and symbolic bond that governs everything they do. Within a stark post-war environment, the dancers navigate intimacy, resistance, and rupture, using the connecting tube as a third partner that shapes weight-sharing, tension, and risk. The work interrogates what keeps people together, what pulls them apart, and how bonds forged under pressure can become both life-giving and suffocating. Breath is visually striking, emotionally driven, and rooted in pure physical storytelling. About the Choreographer: Liam is a contemporary choreographer and dancer born and raised in Barbados. Liam began his dance journey at the school founded by his mother and later honed his craft at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson), where he completed the BFA dance program with distinction. Since graduating in 2022, Liam has choreographed and performed across the Caribbean, Canada, and Europe, participating in productions and festivals including Ballet D’Jerri, Ballet Nights, Fall for Dance North, and Jamaica Dance Umbrella. His work has been recognised for its creativity and precision; in 2021, his choreography was awarded 1st place in the Dancing Together, Distances Apart Regional Dance Competition. In August, he was commissioned to return to Barbados to represent his nation’s delegation at CARIFESTA, an international arts festival. As the youngest choreographer there, he created 2 new works that were featured alongside acts from 15 other nations.
