CALIMALA | Disclosure Platform Fondazione Pitti Discovery, in collaboration with Nutida Festival (Stazione Utopia) and Musicus Concentus, presents the multidisciplinary and international project Calimala | Disclosure Platform. A music and dance production that explores the parallels between Florentine merchants, who purchased cloth and fabrics from all over Europe to resell at fairs from East to West after expert and secret dyeing and softening processes, and today's digital musicians, who, drawing on the pioneering techniques of musiqueconcrete from the 1940s and Jamaican music from the 1960s, have extended the process of extracting rhythmic and melodic elements from other composers' musical sources, manipulating them to create an entirely new musical universe. The original project involved Studio Batsumi of London (an Anglo-Italian producer and musician, a French musician, and an Italian video artist), who worked on composing original dance music, recording and editing the choreography. After a day of rehearsals, they performed a world-premiere live performance, including the ballet troupe. The hour-long performance combined a DJ set, a guitarist, live visuals, and contemporary dance. The show unfolded over 60 minutes, with the DJ set and visuals taking center stage, along with the performances of the dancers, who brought their own creations to the stage, adapting them to different parts of the musical composition. In the final phase, lasting approximately 15 minutes, the performance culminated with the music composed for the choreographic creations, enhanced by the presence of the guitarist. The soundtrack is a journey through ambient atmospheres and electronic rhythms, with tribal and psychedelic influences that complement a refined and engaging sound. ​ The dancers/songwriters under 25, selected through a special call, presented their creations during DIF before a specially appointed panel. The results of this artistic work were presented during the evening as described above.
