Summer at CityDance Conservatory brings world-renowned guest artists to work alongside our esteemed faculty and in-house choreographers. Together, they provide students with rigorous training in both classical and contemporary techniques, creative development opportunities, and performance experiences. A schedule of technique classes, repertory rehearsals, and coaching sessions challenges and inspires students to meet the program’s high expectations in a supportive and caring environment. The companies and artists teach repertory from their current touring productions and create new works. These partnerships ensure that Conservatory students learn and develop the technical, creative, and performance skills they need to support their trajectory into a professional career.

CityDance is ideal for young dancers interested in a challenging summer intensive with high-level ballet and contemporary training. This intensive features contemporary technique training with repertory experiences with Koresh Dance Company as well as floor barre, classical ballet technique, and repertoire with CityDance Vaganova teaching faculty. All students will have a full classical and contemporary technique class each day and repertory experiences of high caliber in both genres. Dancers will present their classical and contemporary repertory in a showing for family and friends at CityDance Studio Theatre at the Music Center at Strathmore on the last day of the intensive.

World-renowned Koresh Dance Company provides an intensive summer dance training experience in true Koresh style – hard-hitting, powerful, and articulate. This intensive features challenging contemporary technique training with repertory experiences and improvisation/composition workshops created by Ronen Koresh, Artistic Director of Koresh Dance Company, as well as classical ballet technique, variations, and ensemble repertory from CityDance’s in-house Vaganova for the 21st Century program, led by Conservatory Ballet Master Stanislav Issaev, Artistic Director Lorraine Spiegler and other CityDance ballet teaching artists. All students will have a full classical and contemporary technique class each day and repertory experiences of high caliber in both genres. Classical repertoire includes variations for advanced students and ensemble pieces from major ballets in the Vaganova tradition. Dancers will learn contemporary works from the current repertory of Koresh Dance Company. The PHILADANCO! & CityDance Intensive is ideal for students interested in challenging ballet technique and contemporary dance. Daily training includes ballet, pointe, men’s class, modern and jazz styles explored through Horton and Graham techniques taught by PHILADANCO! guest artists. Participants/dancers will better understand the African dance diaspora and its influence on the development of American contemporary dance expression in the PHILADANCO! tradition by participating in dance history sessions and artist talks. All students will have repertory experiences of high caliber in ballet and contemporary forms. Ballet repertory will include American neoclassical work by CityDance teaching artists. Dancers will also learn contemporary work from the current repertory of PHILADANCO! as well as a repertory created by PHILADANCO! guest artists. New to our summer line-up is our Dancing Through Myth and Music Intensive! Dancers will journey through traditional Sri Lankan Folklore, exploring the story of Kataragama and the Feathers of the Peacock. Among nature’s most dramatically beautiful creatures, the peacock is a symbol of good luck throughout Asia. During this Sri Lankan adventure, dancers discover the traditional and folk movements as well as explore ballet, modern, and jazz. Dancers are invited to celebrate the magic and mystery of how the peacock got its gorgeous blue-green feathers as well as learn about the symbolism of the Sri Lankan Kataragama who flies on the peacock’s wings and brings well-being to the people. Come join us as we take flight on the wings of the Peacock!

Ballet Hispánico will bring its signature fusion of techniques that characterizes the company’s unique and groundbreaking repertoire. Students will explore Afro-Cuban themes, aiming to focus on movement fluidity, torso articulations and rhythmic variation. CityDance Conservatory closes out the 2024 summer lineup with – From Ballet to Broadway! This dance intensive is designed for skilled dancers passionate about ballet’s technique, strength, and grace and Broadway jazz’s high energy and precision. Participants will have the option to enroll in either a full-day or a half-day program. The full-day program will be a comprehensive and immersive experience covering ballet and Broadway jazz vernacular and contemporary techniques, repertory, and choreography. This intensive offers dancers the opportunity to delve into concepts that aid the development of dance performance through characterization and history. The half-day program is designed to give dancers an option to focus on either ballet or jazz technique. CityDance faculty member and Nijinsky award-winning Conservatory Ballet Master Stanislav Issaev will teach ballet, pointe, variation technique classes, and ensemble repertory. Conservatory Rehearsal Repetiteur Alicia Canterna will lead Pointe and contemporary ballet repertory, and Ro Cunningham and other CityDance teaching artists will teach contemporary jazz technique classes. Lorraine Spiegler, will teach ballet technique, pointe and ballet repertory classes for Petite Conservatory group.
