Description

The Academy’s Senior Professional School consists of distinctive and comprehensive programs designed to produce graduates who are capable of integrating effortlessly into dance companies all over the world. Exceptional training and dedicated attention to each student provides a strong technical foundation in classical ballet and encourages uninhibited artistic expression in all disciplines of dance. Students thrive in an environment that includes international performance tours, educational outreach presentations, numerous performance opportunities throughout the year, workshops and masterclasses as well as participation in festivals and international dance competitions. We believe that our experience in training and our capability to properly guide our students at various stages of their development paired with emphasis in offering performance presentations, access to innovative choreography, and individualized coaching is what sets Goh Ballet’s delivery and the student’s learning outcomes at a level that propels them for career advancement. Our training is not only in the studio where solid foundations are built; it is our strong belief that gaining performance opportunities regularly at professional venues, becoming fluent through exposure to the great classical repertoire, and pushing boundaries in new creations is the best way to ensure our students’ success. We believe in celebrating individual bests and building versatility through a well-rounded curriculum; we do not make “cookie cutter” dancers.

Session Description

Aspiring dancers need to be prepared for the challenges and demands of a professional career, while successfully completing their academic education. The Academy’s commitment to developing a well-balanced and educated dancer is reflected through our Academic/Ballet Program. In 1987, Goh Ballet pioneered the first integrated half-day academic program to allow students the opportunity to continue school studies and professionally train simultaneously. The program combines an academic curriculum provided by Vancouver School Board secondary schools with intensive professional dance training. It also offers students aged 13 to 18 the opportunity to complete the academic requirements for graduation and post-secondary entrance. This combined academic/ballet program is suitable for high-achieving, artistically motivated students who are seriously committed to both academic education and dance training with approximately 25 hours of dance class/rehearsals each week.
