The Grainger Academy's annual summer intensive programs welcome hundreds of students from around the country and the world for an elite training experience and a summer experience in the city of Chicago. Immerse yourself in the challenging and comprehensive training offered at the Grainger Academy during one of the Summer Intensives. This unique experience offers students a robust schedule in a variety of dance styles and the opportunity to hone technique and artistry. Classes are taught by Grainger Academy Faculty, Artistic Staff of The Joffrey Ballet, and Joffrey Ballet Company Artists. For extended programs, housing is available for students and includes chaperone supervision, weekend activities, meal plans, and more. Each Intensive culminates with a final presentation for family and friends. Admission to a Summer Intensive is by audition only.

Students attending 3- and 5-Week Advanced and Junior Summer Intensives have the option of living at University Center. Located in downtown Chicago at 525 S. State Street, it is just a short walk from Joffrey Tower, restaurants, shopping, and public transportation.
Junior Summer Intensive Level 3 is a three-week intensive designed for the serious student, approximately ages 9–14, who loves dance. Daily classes throughout this program include ballet technique, pointe/pre-pointe, classical repertoire, character, jazz, modern, conditioning, West African, and more. The program concludes with a single performance showcasing students’ work throughout the intensive. Housing at University Center and weekend activities are available for students in this intensive.
