If a dancer is unable to attend a Live audition, he or she may submit an online video application. We consider these as equal to a Live audition. Please review the application for details on how to submit a video and what to include in the application. We require an audition for admission into our Ballet, Contemporary, and Jazz Intensives. We host a National Audition Tour each year to see dancers for these three intensives . Dancers choose on the audition application which Intensive program they wish to be considered, and we welcome each dancer to apply for all three programs. The audition fee is a flat, non-refundable $50 for all Live and Video auditions. We highly encourage all dancers to pre-register for Live auditions online. Ballet Intensive: 11 & up Contemporary Intensive: 11 & up Jazz Intensive: 11 & up *Dancers must meet the age requirement by the first day of the intensive. Following are some guidelines as you prepare for the SCSDC Intensive Audition class. The class will be in the form of a ballet class and will also include a contemporary combination toward the end. If you are primarily auditioning for the Contemporary and/or Jazz Intensives and do not consider Ballet your primary strength, please do not worry. You will not be asked to do pointe work and you will not be evaluated for your preferred intensive by your ballet skill level. In a 90-minute class this is the best way for us to evaluate all dancer’s placement, flexibility, strength, musicality, etc. If you are auditioning for the Ballet Intensive you may be asked to do a combination or exercise on pointe later in the class. Not all students auditioning for ballet may be doing pointe work yet; this does not affect your audition or chances of selection for the program. We do not expect younger dancers to be working on pointe.
