Southern DanceWorks

A part of the Birmingham, AL community since 1963, Southern DanceWorks has a long history of providing space for artists of all backgrounds to explore the craft of connecting people through the art of dance. We are Alabama’s oldest professional modern dance company and offer a wide variety of acclaimed programs with “an overarching commitment to quality at the highest level” (The Birmingham News). Under the direction of Artistic Director Germaul Barnes, we present repertory concerts with works by regional and nationally renowned choreographers, and connect with our community through outreach initiatives, collaborations, and workshops.
