Video Requirements:

Required Information: For ALL recordings use a static camera and avoid dubbed music. 1. Recording of ballet class: Exercises should be short and clearly presented, total length should not exceed 45 minutes. You should be the only dancer in the frame and please wear form-fitting dance attire. Please wear flat ballet technique shoes for the entirety of class and please include the following exercises: Ballet Barre (one side only, all recorded from the side): Plié, Tendu from 5th, Dégagé from 5th, Rond de Jambe, Grand Battement Center (both sides, recorded from the front): Adagio, Turn/Waltz, Petit Allegro, Grand Allegro OPTIONAL pointe variation or pointe exercises of your choice. Pointe is not required for acceptance into the dance program. 2. Recording of an unedited Jazz, Modern, OR Contemporary solo of your choice: Solos should be 1.5 to 3 minutes in length and must be recorded from the front in a dance studio. Stage performances will not be accepted! Please refrain from using pointe shoes or improvisation. 3. Upload a 3–5-minute video answering these questions: Describe why you would like to pursue teaching dance. What age group(s) are you interested in teaching? Why? If you have taught before, what have you learned from these experiences? What aspects of the dance education concentration interest you, and/or how to you believe it will prepare you for your future goals? Are you aware that the Dance Education concentration requires students to participate in practicum hours and a full semester of student teaching in a K-12 classroom setting? 4. One current headshot 5. Current Resume that includes the following: Employment Community Involvement and/or Leadership Positions Held Academic Awards AP Courses Honors Courses Special Summer Programs Performances, etc. 6. Online Application also Includes: Contact information Responses to the following questions: What prompted your decision to audition for the USC Betsy Blackmon Dance Program? Please list your most influential teachers and dance experiences. Do you have any additional interests that you plan to incorporate into your education at USC? (Dual Major, Minor or Cognate areas of interests) What goals do you have after graduating from the USC Betsy Blackmon Dance Program?

Audition Description

1. You must simultaneously apply to the University of South Carolina Office of Undergraduate Admissions for academic acceptance. The Undergraduate Admissions application is a separate process from the Betsy Blackmon Dance Program application and audition. Please contact the USC Undergraduate Admissions office directly for their requirements. https://sc.edu/about/offices_and_divisions/undergraduate_admissions/ 2. You may audition for either emphasis (Performance & Choreography OR Dance Education). If you would like to be considered for BOTH, please complete the application for Dance Education and indicate that you would also like to be considered for Performance & Choreography. 3. Scholarships are available for the Betsy Blackmon Dance Program. The audition for acceptance into the Betsy Blackmon Dance Program automatically qualifies you for consideration for departmental dance scholarship. 4. Application Deadlines are November 1, 2025, and February 15, 2026, for acceptance into the Betsy Blackmon Dance Program for Fall of 2026. You may apply during either application period. You will receive a notification of acceptance and scholarship within (3) weeks following the application deadline via Acceptd. Please be sure to check your spam folder in addition to your inbox.
