.Virginia National Ballet’s Trainee Program is intended for talented young dancers aged 18 or more who wish to bridge the gap between their student training and professional work. Trainees will take classes in ballet, pas de deux, variations, contemporary, and jazz, and will take company class at least once weekly, or more depending on the ability of the Trainee and how quickly their technique improves throughout the year. Trainees will have the opportunity to perform in VNB’s mainstage productions and tours as well as community outreach events. Virginia National Ballet performs at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas and at Capital One Hall in Tysons, as well as tours to other theaters in Virginia and NYC. Additionally, Trainees will learn about best practices for creating resumes, cover letters, audition photos and videos, how to contact companies for auditions, how to make the best impression at all stages of the audition process, social media/marketing, and more. A typical weekly schedule will include weekday rehearsals from approximately 11:30 am to 3 pm, evening classes each day, and Saturday class and rehearsal. VNB’s Trainee Program is advantageous as the small number of Trainee slots available guarantees greater attention to each individual dancer. Besides the rigorous training, Trainees will also be introduced to professional company life, and will be guided through their transition to either become an apprentice with Virginia National Ballet the following season, or to find work at other ballet companies after completion of the program.
