Description

Works & Process is commissioning and producing Brokeback Mountain, The Ballet and is hiring 5 dancers for the creative development and premiere performances. The work will be choreographed by Pontus Lidberg, with music by David Conte. Dancers must be local to NYC; no NYC housing is provided as part of this contract. The ballet brings Annie Proulx’s iconic short story to life through expressive dance and music capturing the emotional restraint, rugged beauty and tragic romance that have made the story a cornerstone of literature and film. Set in the American West, the ballet tells the story of two working-class men caught between desire and fear, through silence and gesture. The dance conveys deeply internal, often repressed emotions that words alone cannot express. Set before same-sex marriage was legal in the U.S., the body becomes the vehicle to share the unspoken depths of longing, conflict, and intimacy. Performed by 5 dancers (2 male roles, 2 female roles, 1 additional role) and 8 musicians, the work will be shared in process, and the premiere produced by Works & Process will take place in NYC, with potential for touring.
