The following provides guidelines and tips for submitting a video audition from NBS’ Professional Ballet Academic and Company Life Programs. Please begin the video by sharing your name, age, and location. The complete video should not exceed 10 minutes and your video should include: - - - - Barre- the following age appropriate combinations to one side: o Plié o Tendu o Rond de Jambe o Adage o Grand Battement Center work- the following age appropriate elements to one side: o Adagio o Pirouettes, both en dehors and en dedans o Petit allegro o Grand allegro Dancers who train en pointe should wear pointe shoes and include a diagonal turning combination Variations: o For dancers age 16 and over, a brief classical and/or contemporary variation may be included o Candidates for NBS’ Company Life Program please include both a classical and contemporary variation (full video including barre, center and variations not to exceed 15 minutes) For the presentation of barre and center, please wear your usual, close-fitting ballet training attire (e.g., body suit and tights, close fitting t-shirt and leggings). Please do not wear skirts, warm-ups, or other loose fitting items. For children under the age of 12 years old, who are beginners to ballet, please email us at [email protected] and we can provide guidelines specific to your needs. Some tips for filming your audition: - You can film the video in a dance studio, in your home, or any other location that gives you enough space to move. - You can use a video camera, tablet, phone or computer. If using a phone or tablet please film with the device horizontally (landscape) not verticallyAudition Description
This is a blended audition for the Professional Ballet-Academic Program and Company Life Program (for students who have graduated high school) at Canada's National Ballet School. Please disregard the audition schedule and start date displayed here, as this is merely a registration and payment portal. Your audition must be in the form of a pre-recorded video. When you register, you will be asked for two items that must be pre-prepared: The unlisted video streaming link to your audition (uploaded on YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) A portrait style headshot of the auditioning dancer. The image will be used by NBS staff for identification purposes during the audition process and does not need to be professionally shot.Updated: Sept. 2, 2024
